International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL)
An IMO Convention adopted in 1973, which aims to prevent and minimise
pollution from ships due to accidents or routine operations – includes
pollution by caused oil, noxious liquid substances, cargo , sewage, garbage and
exhaust gasses
